The Certificate in First Aid in Mental Health is a six-month Open Distance and Flexible Learning programme offered through SRC Community College, an initiative of the State Resource Centre, Kerala. The programme is designed to equip individuals with essential knowledge and practical skills to identify early signs of mental health problems and provide immediate, first-line psychological support.
Focusing on community-based mental health care, the programme prepares learners to act as effective first responders in mental health situations across schools, workplaces, NGOs, healthcare settings, and local communities. The curriculum combines theoretical learning with compulsory face-to-face practical sessions, emphasizing psychological first aid, crisis management, common mental health conditions, stigma reduction, and referral mechanisms.
On successful completion, learners are empowered to promote mental well-being, support individuals in distress, and contribute to building inclusive, compassionate, and stigma-free mental health environments.
