The Fellowship in Diabetic Rehabilitation (FIDR) is a one-year Open Distance Learning programme designed to equip qualified physiatrists with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the rehabilitation of persons with Diabetes Mellitus. The programme is jointly developed by the Kerala Chapter of the Indian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in association with the State Resource Centre, Kerala.
This fellowship addresses the growing need for specialized rehabilitation care in diabetes management, particularly in Kerala, where the burden of diabetes is significantly high. The curriculum integrates theoretical foundations with hands-on clinical training, focusing on diabetic neuropathy, musculoskeletal disorders, systemic complications, diabetic foot care, and advanced rehabilitation strategies.
Delivered through a blended mode, the programme includes weekend online theory sessions conducted by expert faculty and compulsory hands-on practical workshops at selected centres. On successful completion, participants are empowered to provide standardized, evidence-based rehabilitation services that improve functional outcomes, reduce complications, and enhance the quality of life of individuals with diabetes.
